SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT WHEN YOU WANT TO FORFEIT YOUR UNION MEMBERSHIP

When your co-worker in the public sector is not a union member, remember that we as a group are paying for their benefits and their right to have a collective bargaining agreement. Without a union contract, the employee/company will have the right to pay you minimal wages, and no benefits. Our strength is in our numbers, so advise your coworker that when they want to go non-union because they feel they can’t afford to pay union dues, they will not be able to have any standard of living with no union contract. The public sector Teamsters will lose good wages, good benefits, seniority and this is a right-to-work state; you may lose your job with no recourse. So, remind your coworkers that when they say they can’t afford to pay union dues, paying union dues are about ensuring their contract is solid with above average wages, above average benefits and above average security and the union will not be able to save jobs like we have. This is extremely important to us as a unit in these hard economic times.

Please review all senate bills/proposals at www.leg.state.nv.us. These bills are being introduced into legislature to do away with collective bargaining and your PERS system. The union can’t fight the fight without everyone getting involved to save public sector jobs.
