CCSD Contract Ratification: A Letter From Secretary-Treasurer, Fred Horvath

Your new two (2) year contract with the Clark County School District was ratified by an overwhelming majority, on August 12th. I want to extend a big thank you to all of you who took the time to vote and to those who attended our informational meeting! A special thanks to all of our activists and Local 14 Staff that managed the logistics of Saturday’s activities.

We are hopeful that the 1st year economic changes will be reflected in your 1st paycheck in September, and we know the District’s staff is working hard to make that happen. As soon as we can confirm the actual date, we will get that information out to you. This new contract is a huge step forward in bringing the terms and conditions within it up to market standards.

We have several other items we are working through with the District’s team, the most important one being the negotiations and distribution of the money appropriated within Senate Bill 231 during the last legislative session. We believe up to $70,000,000.00 dollars are going to be available to CCSD Support Professionals for the next two (2) years. As soon as the regulations are established by the State, we will meet with the District’s bargaining committee and get an agreement in front of the Board of Trustees for their approval. We will provide regular updates on our progress with SB 231 negotiations.

Again, thank you for turning out and ratifying this new contract.

Sincerely,

Fred Horvath
